Las Vegas Wants to Ban Pigeon Feeding

An ordinance was introduced recently by Clark County Commissioner Chris Guinchigliani that would ban pigeon feeding. Support for this new law is strong because pigeons are becoming a major problem in Las Vegas.

Reducing pigeon food sources is important, but most problem sites need more than one control measure. The product OvoControl is a part of a pigeon reduction program in Las Vegas that is working.

Over a year ago the Clark County Parks Maintenance Division purchased bird feeders and feed laced with pigeon “birth control”. OvoControl is a ready-to-use bait that interferes with the reproduction of treated birds, causing the population to decline.
This method is working to reduce the pigeon population, but some feel citizen feeding of the pigeons is still a problem.

Others argue trash is attracting pigeons, not just bird feeding.

The ordinance was due to be discussed at a public hearing.
